Proposal: Migrate to event-driven architecture
MT
Marcus Torres 2h ago Hot

I'd like to propose that we migrate our core platform to an event-driven architecture. After analyzing our current system, I believe this would solve several pain points we've been hitting as we scale.

Key benefits:

  • Decoupled services — Each module (CRM, Projects, Wiki) can evolve independently without cascading deployments
  • Real-time processing — Events propagate instantly across the system, enabling features like live dashboards and cross-module notifications
  • Fault tolerance — If one service goes down, events queue up and replay when it recovers. No data loss.
  • Audit trail — Every state change is an event, giving us a complete, immutable history for compliance and debugging

For the message broker, I'm leaning toward NATS for its simplicity and performance, but I'm open to Kafka if we need stronger ordering guarantees. Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on the trade-offs.

I've drafted an RFC document in the Wiki with more technical details including migration phases, estimated timeline (3 sprints), and rollback strategy.

Love this direction! I've been wanting to decouple the frontend notification system from direct API polling. One thing to evaluate — we should benchmark NATS vs Kafka for our specific throughput requirements. Our peak is ~12K events/sec during month-end reporting, and we need guaranteed ordering for the CRM pipeline state machine.

Maya Patel 55m ago
From a data perspective, this is exactly what we need for the analytics pipeline. Currently we're doing batch ETL every 6 hours — with event streaming we could have real-time dashboards. I've tested NATS JetStream and it handles our load with <5ms latency. Happy to share the benchmarks.

JL
Jordan Lee 40m ago
Sales team perspective: real-time CRM updates would be a game-changer. Right now there's a noticeable delay between when a deal moves stages and when it shows in reports. If we can get sub-second propagation, that removes a major friction point for the sales floor.

CL
Casey Lewis 20m ago
Strong +1 from leadership. The audit trail benefit alone justifies the effort for our SOC 2 compliance requirements. Marcus — let's schedule a deeper technical review this week. Can you present the RFC to the full engineering team on Thursday?

API Reference v3.2
Last updated 2h ago by Marcus Torres | Contributors:
MT AI
Up to date v3.2 • 47 endpoints • REST
Overview

The NovaCorp API v3.2 provides programmatic access to all platform resources including contacts, deals, analytics, and document management. All endpoints use JSON request and response bodies. The base URL for all API calls is https://api.novacorp.io/v3.

Authentication is required for all endpoints. Rate limits are enforced per API key. See the Authentication and Rate Limits sections below for details.

Endpoints
Method Path Description Auth
GET /api/v3/contacts List all contacts Bearer token
POST /api/v3/contacts Create contact Bearer token
GET /api/v3/deals List deals Bearer token
PUT /api/v3/deals/:id Update deal Bearer token
GET /api/v3/analytics/pipeline Pipeline analytics Admin
POST /api/v3/receipts/scan Upload receipt scan Bearer token
Authentication

All API requests must include a valid Bearer token in the Authorization header. Tokens are generated from the Settings > API Keys page and are scoped per workspace.

Authorization Header curl
curl -X GET https://api.novacorp.io/v3/contacts \ -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" # Response { "data": [ { "id": "ct_8a4f2e", "name": "Alex Rivera", "company": "Acme Corp", "email": "alex@acmecorp.com" } ], "meta": { "total": 142, "page": 1 } }
Rate Limits

API requests are rate limited to 1,000 requests per minute per API key for standard endpoints. Analytics endpoints are limited to 100 requests per minute. Rate limit headers are included in every response:

Rate Limit Headers
X-RateLimit-Limit: 1000 X-RateLimit-Remaining: 847 X-RateLimit-Reset: 1707580800

When the rate limit is exceeded, the API returns a 429 Too Many Requests response. Implement exponential backoff in your client to handle this gracefully.

Jan 8, 2025
Notes
Enterprise platform license deal covering all 12 Acme Corp regional offices. Initial scope was $200K but expanded to $240K after adding the analytics module. Alex Rivera is our champion — technically oriented, values architecture discussions. Jason Torres (CTO) is the final technical sign-off. Key blocker is data migration from legacy system; we committed to a migration plan by next week. Legal is reviewing our MSA. Jordan Lee has a previous relationship with their CTO which has been instrumental. Competition: they also evaluated FarmOS but our integration capabilities and API-first approach won them over in the technical evaluation.

#1247 — API rate limiting errors after update
P1 Critical Open Acme Corp
AR
Alex Rivera Today, 9:15 AM
We're seeing intermittent 429 errors on the /api/v3/contacts endpoint since this morning's update. Our integration makes ~500 calls/hour which was well within limits before. This is blocking our CRM sync pipeline.
MT
Marcus Torres Today, 9:32 AM
Hi Alex, I can see the rate limit changes in this morning's deploy. Let me check the new thresholds — they may have been set too aggressively. Looking into it now.
MT
Internal Note Marcus Torres Today, 9:45 AM
Confirmed: rate limits were changed from 1000/hr to 200/hr in deploy v3.2.1. This affects all enterprise accounts. Need to either revert or add enterprise tier exception. Escalating to API team.
AI Suggestion Today, 9:48 AM
Based on similar tickets (#1198, #1203), this is likely related to the rate limiter configuration in the API gateway. Suggested resolution: Update the enterprise tier rate limit in config/rate_limits.yml.
Relevant Wiki: API Rate Limiting Architecture →
MT
Marcus Torres Today, 10:15 AM
Good news — we've identified the issue and are pushing a hotfix to restore enterprise limits to 1000/hr. Should be deployed within 30 minutes. I'll update you once confirmed.

#1245 — SSO login redirect loop
P1 Critical Escalated SLA BREACHED TechStart Inc
DK
David Kim Today, 7:30 AM
Our entire team is locked out. When we try to log in via SSO, we get stuck in an infinite redirect loop between our IdP and your app. This started about an hour ago. None of our 45 users can access the platform.
JR
Jamie Rodriguez Today, 7:45 AM
Hi David, I'm sorry to hear about this. I've tried reproducing the issue on our staging environment and can confirm the redirect loop. Let me escalate this to our SSO specialist immediately.
JR
Internal Note Jamie Rodriguez Today, 7:50 AM
Escalating to Tier 3 (Wei Zhang). The redirect loop appears to be caused by a SAML certificate rotation that happened on our side without notifying the customer's IdP. This is affecting all SSO-enabled accounts using Okta integration.
WZ
Wei Zhang Today, 8:20 AM
David, I've been assigned to your ticket. I've identified the root cause — our SAML certificate was rotated during a maintenance window without updating the metadata endpoint. I'm working with our infrastructure team to restore the previous certificate while we coordinate the migration properly. ETA: 45 minutes.
WZ
Internal Note Wei Zhang Today, 8:25 AM
SLA has been breached. This is impacting at least 3 SSO-enabled enterprise accounts (TechStart, MedCore, Invex). Filing incident report IR-2024-089. Need post-mortem on why cert rotation wasn't coordinated with customer success.

“Absolutely love the platform. The AI features have cut our workflow time in half. Support team is incredibly responsive — had a complex integration issue resolved in under 2 hours.”
Sarah Mitchell, Acme Corp • 2 days ago Positive

“Best CRM we’ve used. The pipeline visualization alone saved us 10 hours a week in sales meetings. Only wish the mobile app was a bit faster.”
David Kim, TechStart • 5 days ago Positive

“Good product overall but the reporting could be more customizable. We end up exporting to Excel for half our reports. API documentation also needs improvement.”
Tom Baker, FarmFirst • 1 week ago Neutral

“Had a terrible experience with the CSV import. Lost 2 hours of data entry due to a silent failure. When I contacted support, I was told it was a ‘known issue’ from 3 months ago. Unacceptable.”
Nina Rodriguez, CropMax • 1 week ago Negative

“Switched from LegacySuite last quarter and never looked back. The modern interface and AI-powered insights are genuinely game-changing for our sales team.”

Project Phoenix — Technical Specification
Version 2.1 · Last updated February 9, 2025 · Engineering Team
1. Executive Summary
Project Phoenix is a next-generation platform redesign that unifies our core product offerings into a single, cohesive experience. This specification outlines the technical architecture, implementation phases, and key design decisions that will guide the engineering team through the 16-week development cycle.
Key Decision: After evaluating three architecture options, the team has agreed to proceed with a micro-frontend approach using Module Federation. This allows independent deployment of each feature module while maintaining a shared design system.
2. System Architecture
The platform consists of five core modules that communicate through a shared event bus and centralized state management layer. Each module is independently deployable and maintains its own data layer.
Module Owner Status Target Date
Authentication Platform Team Complete Jan 15
Dashboard Frontend Team In Progress Feb 28
Analytics Data Team In Progress Mar 15
Messaging Comms Team Planning Apr 1
Integrations Platform Team Not Started Apr 30
3. Technical Requirements
3.1 Performance Targets
  • First Contentful Paint (FCP) under 1.2 seconds on 4G connections
  • Time to Interactive (TTI) under 3.5 seconds
  • Core Web Vitals: all metrics in the "Good" threshold
  • API response time p95 under 200ms for read operations
  • Bundle size under 250KB (gzipped) for initial load
3.2 Security Requirements
  • SOC 2 Type II compliance for all data handling
  • End-to-end encryption for sensitive communications
  • Role-based access control (RBAC) with granular permissions
  • Regular third-party security audits on a quarterly cadence
4. Migration Strategy
The migration will follow a strangler fig pattern, gradually replacing legacy components while maintaining backward compatibility. Feature flags will control the rollout to enable instant rollback if issues arise during the transition.
Phase 1 focuses on the authentication and dashboard modules, which represent the highest-traffic entry points. Phase 2 will tackle analytics and messaging once the core infrastructure is validated in production.
